Butterflies, nerves, and jitter… aren’t they so wonderful? THEY ARE! I believe they are reminders to us that the life choices you are making are important and it also helps us to understand how much we care about those choices. Many culture view butterflies differently. To some them up, butterflies represent a long, blissful life.
These butterflies can be opportunities for you to reach out to others in an authentic, powerful and perhaps healing ways. Start with your fiancé; tell him/her how you feel, exactly how you feel. Let them be a part of this journey. There is always the “elder” of the family who always have time for an ear, a smile, and a hug (that will help you be still and know you are okay.) And then there is your BFF, she/he will not judge and will love you no matter what. A great comfort, especially now.
No one knows what tomorrow will bring, your life will be what you make of it. There can be many things that could bring butterflies back; employment, buying a house, moving, planning a family, losing a family member. Life happens with good times and those times we may not look forward too.
There is one more person you can have a talk with. That person in the mirror! Take some time with that person. It IS important to “pay yourself” and take care of yourself, no one else can do it for you. It is about taking that hot bath, going for a walk, reading a book, going to the spa, going to a game, playing golf, or whatever else it is that allows you to clear your mind and be comfortable.
It is in the moments before you are wed that you should recall those first moments when you knew how much you love your fiancé. Remember that you are surrounded by your given family, your chosen family, your friends and many guests who wish you will and want the best for you both.
This day will be one of the most remarkable experiences of your life. So, take a deep breath. Smile. And remember butterflies in many cultures are symbols of fresh, healthy, new beginnings; just like yours!
