Unique Ceremony Ideas

There are so many new options when it comes to ceremonies these days! Some brides prefer the traditional route while others want to go a little more alternative and unique. A lot of brides these days are stepping out of the norm when it comes to their ceremony. Here at The Hills Event Center, we take our experience of the wedding industry and help you design the perfect day you have dreamed about! We have worked with many couples on incorporating the type of ceremony that fits what they are looking for and we offer a gorgeous patio space if you are looking for an outdoor ceremony location! Here are a few ceremony ideas that we absolutely love!

Knot-Tying Ceremony

This type of ceremony literally involves “tying the knot”. You and your significant other will be presented with a piece of rope, usually two different colors. You will then tie the two pieces of rope into a large fisherman’s knot. This unity represents and symbolizes so much within the bonding of your relationship. The fisherman’s knot is the strongest knot known so when your love is ‘tied together’ nothing can break it. We would recommend practicing this before hand but this is a treasure that can be displayed or passed along for years!

Rose Ceremony

This is a simple unity but very moving at the same time. During the ceremony, you and your partner both exchange roses as a symbol of the giving and receiving of your love from this day forward. The ceremony also conveys how to use the rose and its symbolism in difficult times. Generally, either the Officiant will hand you the roses or both your mothers will do so. It’s simple and to the point, which is why we loved this one.

Hand Ceremony

The hand ceremony is another simple one with a lot of representation and meaning. This ceremony basically explains the significance of you and your partner’s hands while you are facing each other and holding them together. Below are some of the verses within one version the hand ceremony:

“These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.”

Unity Cocktail Ceremony

This type of ceremony is more of a modern alternative to the unity candle and the sand ceremony. It adds personality and pizzazz to the ceremony and represents two lives coming together as one. This can be personalized, so if you and your other half are beer drinkers or maybe wine lovers, you can absolutely use either one of those. Another idea is to make a signature drink by mixing your favorite beverages together at the alter! You can then drink them again on your anniversary!

Love Locks Ceremony

This is a new kind of twist to add to your ceremony where you and your significant other can literally “lock in your love” for each other. Using padlocks, you both lock in your love for each other. Traditionally, the key to the padlock is thrown into the ocean or somewhere where it can never be retrieved. But sometimes they are kept and displayed in a wedding capsule or frame. To find what represents your love the best, there are many different scriptures your Officiant can recite!

Get creative! Your ceremony should be a representation of your love and who you are as a couple, don’t be afraid to step outside of the norm! I hope this was able to give you some great ideas if you are looking to go the alternative or traditional route.  If you are engaged and still looking for your wedding venue, come check out The Hills!
